“I have no peace! I have no quiet! I have no rest!
And trouble keeps coming”
Job 3:26
I. THE SABBATH: the Solution
“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by
keeping it holy. 9 Six days a week are
set apart for your daily duties and
regular work, 10 but the seventh day is
a day of rest dedicated to the LORD your
God.”
Exodus 20:8-10
"Jesus said, "The Sabbath was made to
benefit people, and not people to
benefit the Sabbath.”
Mark 2:27
“In the same way, some think one day is
more holy than another day, while others
think every day is alike. Each person
should have a personal conviction about
this matter. Those who have a special
day for worshiping the Lord are trying
to honor Him.”
Romans 14:5-6
“So don't let anyone condemn you for
what you eat or drink, or for not
celebrating certain holy days or
new-moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For
these rules were only shadows of the
real thing, Christ Himself.”
Colossians 2:16-17
“It was the Lord's Day, and I was
worshiping in the Spirit…”
Revelation 1:10
II. WHAT TO DO ON YOUR
SABBATH
How do I "keep it holy"?
1. USE THE DAY TO Rest Your Body
“It is useless for you to work so hard
from early morning until late at night,
anxiously working for food to eat; for
God gives rest to his loved ones.”
Psalms 127:2
“Only someone too stupid to find his way
home would wear himself out with work.”
Ecclesiastes 10:15 TEV
2. USE THE DAY TO Recharge Your
Emotions
3 Ways To Do This:
A. Include time for Quietness.
“He lets me rest in green meadows; he
leads me beside peaceful streams. He
renews my strength.”
Psalms 23:2-3
Then Jesus said, "Let's get away from
the crowds for a while and rest." There
were so many people coming and going
that Jesus and his apostles didn't even
have time to eat. They left by boat
for a quieter spot”.
Mark 6:31-32
B. Include time for Family.
In the presence of the LORD your God,
you and your families are to eat and
enjoy yourselves.
Deuteronomy 14:26 TEV
You must celebrate there with your sons
and daughters in the presence of the
LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 12:12
“Live happily with the woman you love
through all the meaningless days of life
that God has given you in this world.
The wife God gives you is your reward
for all your earthly toil”.
Ecclesiastes 9:9-10
“A relaxed attitude lengthens life”
Proverbs 14:30
“Being cheerful keeps you healthy. It is
slow death to be gloomy all the time.”
Proverbs 17:22 TEV
How do you deal with your family:
L - Listen to them
O - Overlook minor differences
V - Value them, their time, opinion,
feelings
E - Express your love with words and
action
T - Thank God for them
H - Heal hurts as soon as possible
E - Expect tough times
M - Measure results
A - Appreciate them for who they are
L - Learn for your mistakes
L - Laugh a lot
C. Include time for Fellowship.
“And let us not neglect our meeting
together, as some people do, but
encourage and warn each other,
especially now that the day of his
coming back again is drawing near.”
Hebrews 10:25
I was glad when they said to me, "Let us
go to the house of the LORD."
Psalms 122:1
III. USE THE DAY TO Refocus Your Spirit
“Come, let us worship and bow down. Let
us kneel before the LORD our maker”
Psalms 95:6
How do you benefit if you gain the whole
world but lose your own soul in the
process? Is anything worth more than
your soul?
Mark 8:36-37
Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you
who are weary and carry heavy burdens,
and I will give you rest. Take My
yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because
I am humble and gentle, and you will
find rest for your souls. For My
yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I
give you is light."
Matthew 11:28-30
